Details

In September 2025 the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) advisory body, PPAN Science Board, discussed fully the recommendations of the 2025 gravitational waves (GW) review and since that time, in light of the recent SR allocation and wider research landscape changes, the landscape has changed.

STFC’s response to the 2025 GW review, presents a response from STFC acknowledging that the UKRI funding landscape has evolved, with UKRI receiving its four-year budget from the Department of Science Innovation and Technology in October 2025.

To manage a sustainable level of funding over the spending review period (financial years 2026 to 2027 through to 2029 to 2030), STFC will need to focus its efforts on a more concentrated set of priorities, funded at a level that can be maintained over time.

STFC is not committing to the recommendations, rather acknowledging and reflecting what we can do at the moment.
