Details

This policy applies to in-scope UKRI funding opportunities launched on or after 1 April 2027. It applies to funding from the research councils and UKRI-wide schemes, and some Innovate UK and Research England funding.

It aims to ensure research data and research relevant digital objects (algorithms, code, metadata, models, software and other supporting documentation) are managed and shared responsibly to be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR).

It is accompanied by supporting guidance for any UKRI funded research that may involve sharing research data about people.

UKRI’s pre-existing research data guidance and research council policies apply to funding opportunities launched before 1 April 2027 and awards arising from these.

Information about how the policy was developed and its implementation can be found at Developing UKRI’s research data policy (UKRI Engagement Hub).
