This strategy applies to all UKRI investments and operations, including those activities delivered by its constituent councils.

Our vision is to lead by example by embedding environmental sustainability across all aspects of research and innovation. UKRI aims to enable a thriving, climate-resilient future within healthy and biodiverse ecosystems, through:

  • the responsible use of resources
  • adoption of circular economy principles
  • protection of natural capital
  • the sustainable procurement of materials

UKRI introduced its first strategy for environmental sustainability in 2020. The current publication, published 15 December 2025, is a refreshed strategy covering the period 2025 to 2030.

This is the website for UKRI: our seven research councils, Research England and Innovate UK. Let us know if you have feedback or would like to help improve our online products and services.
