The UKRI offices in Brussels support the UK’s involvement in the EU’s key research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe. The programme has a budget of €95.5 billion and runs until 2027.
UK academics and businesses secured over €7 billion from Horizon 2020, the EU’s previous funding programme. The UK is the second highest recipient of EU grant funding after Germany.
Supporting UK researchers and innovators
There are two UKRI teams in Brussels:
- UK Research Office (UKRO) Brussels
- Innovate UK Brussels.
Together they work with partners across government, UKRI, and the UK Mission to the EU to maximise UK engagement in Horizon Europe.
They achieve this by:
- acting as a trusted source of advice
- promoting the UK’s research and innovation strengths and capabilities
- liaising with EU institutions.
The teams also complement the work of the National Contact Points (NCPs). NCPs are appointed by the UK government to give free and impartial advice on Horizon Europe.
UK Research Office (UKRO) Brussels
UKRO delivers a subscription-based service for UK universities and research organisations. The service provides organisations with news, insight and advice to help them engage with EU-funded research.

Innovate UK Brussels
The Innovate UK office works with UK industry and partners across the research and innovation ecosystem. The office helps these organisations engage with EU institutions and European partners.
