Research programme planning

The definition and delivery of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) programme is aided by a range of advisory, peer review, coordinating, steering and management committees. Each has specific terms of reference and a membership decided in consultation with the community, in most cases following a call for nominations.

The Science Board provides advice to the STFC Council and Executive Board on all aspects of the council’s science and technology programme. The board is responsible for advising on major investment decisions and on long-term strategies and priorities, taking advice, as required, from a range of routes.

In particular, they are advised by the Projects Peer-Review Panel (PPRP) which assesses proposals for all major new capital projects, and related technology research and development for the peer review of research grant applications by the Particle Physics Grants Peer-Review Panel (PPGP), the Astronomy Grants Panel (AGP) and the Nuclear Physics Grants Panel (NPGP).
