In the run-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), we asked our researchers to tell us about their work and the challenges of tackling climate change.

Dr Lucy Martin is the Deputy Director at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Lucy is responsible for research and investments that are focused on tackling challenges associated with environmental sustainability and achieving net zero.

Lucy aims to work with other researchers and stakeholders so that all of the different industrial processes and systems are reviewed, to achieve net zero.

Lucy says:

This is a huge challenge and it’s a really exciting field to be involved in! We’re starting to see commitments around the world and now what we really need to do is get on and do the research and development.
