This is an independent review carried out by Tony Hickson (Chief Business Officer at Cancer Research UK) on deepening university-investor links in the UK. This review builds on the work of others and makes recommendations to enhance collaboration between universities and investors in order to improve alignment and accelerate innovation pathways.
As part of the review an extensive programme of stakeholder engagement was undertaken. This included structured interviews with individuals and organisations, as well as a broader socialising process through roundtables and cross-government engagement activities.
In addition to the consultations, the review is supported by accompanying data analysis commissioned by Research England and authored by Tomas Coates Ulrichsen, entitled ‘Investing in Success: A quantitative analysis of the structure, dynamics and links within the UK university spinout and investor ecosystem’, published alongside this report.
