What is commercialisation

Commercialisation is the process by which new or improved technologies, products, processes, and services are brought to market.

Commercialisation is valuable to us as a mechanism for delivering and sustaining positive impact from research, where people take an idea arising from research and development and apply it to solve a real problem or fulfil an unmet need.

Research commercialisation can take many forms, including:

  • creating spin-out companies
  • licensing of technologies
  • establishing social enterprises

Which method of commercialisation is most appropriate for you will often depend on the nature of your idea.
