The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) supports researchers, innovators, industry stakeholders and businesses in translating fundamental understanding of biological systems.
We collaborate with businesses, innovation stakeholders and partners across UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), including Innovate UK, to co-design, co-invest and co-deliver pre-competitive innovation programmes that ensure businesses can thrive in their collaborations with the UK’s world-leading research base.
Our ambition is to ensure that bioscience research and innovation is at the forefront of global opportunities and challenges to improve lives and boost economic growth.
How BBSRC works with business
At BBSRC we are passionate about supporting businesses through co-design, co-investment and co-delivery of investments in strategic, industrially relevant collaborative research and development programmes with the bioscience research base.
BBSRC work with and support others to work with a wide range of bioscience and biotechnology businesses as well as wider industry, UK government and innovation stakeholders. We do this in order to:
- connect businesses to world-leading bioscience capability, expertise, and infrastructure across the UK
- partner with businesses to design and invest together in strategic collaborative research and development programmes with the bioscience research base
- work with businesses to nurture talent and meet diverse skills needs
We offer several different funding support mechanisms, including both responsive and strategic funding, to provide opportunities for businesses and wider industry stakeholders to collaborate with world-leading researchers across the UK. In doing so, you can develop new partnerships with internationally leading institutes, and gain access to world-leading expertise and facilities across the UK.
BBSRC have a dedicated team that is responsible for supporting and working with businesses. Within the team there are specialist leads that work with businesses across the full breadth of BBSRC’s strategic objectives and priority areas.
