Find data and trends on the diversity of funding applicants and recipients for each research council.
Diversity data for all research councils
This data release is for the financial year 2020 to 2021. It builds on our previous data release. It provides harmonised diversity data available for 7 research councils covering the 5 financial years from 2016-17 to 2020-21.
Detailed ethnicity analysis
We’ve published results by detailed ethnicity categories to understand the variation within the ethnic minority group.
We are using the data, together with other evidence and engagement with the research and innovation community, to help us identify what we need to do to increase equality, diversity and inclusion across the research and innovation system.
Financial year 2019 to 2020 is the last time that detailed ethnicity and diversity data analysis will be published in two stages. From 2020 to 2021, detailed ethnicity analysis is incorporated into the main diversity data release.
Why we publish diversity data
UKRI is committed to expanding its data collection and analysis capabilities on our funding applicants and recipients.
The publication of the data is an important part of our work to identify and understand where action is needed to address issues within the funding system.
Providing accessible data and information facilitates analysis and insight for our sector and ensures we are subject to constructive external scrutiny. This will support us and the wider sector as we seek to drive transformative change.
Find out more about how UKRI is addressing under-representation and active participation.
Before releasing this data, UKRI responded to an initial data request from the Science and Technology Select Committee’s inquiry into the impact of science funding policy on equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
